Format Rules
-
This is a 75-card (60+15), best-of-three constructed format.
We believe one of the best ways to play constructed Magic is with 60 cards and a 15-card sideboard. We encourage players to use their sideboard to the fullest and all deck building decisions should be made with best-of-three in mind.
-
Only Standard printed cards are legal in the format.
To keep Aether as close to a real extended format as possible with a true-to-paper experience, only cards printed in premiere-level sets are legal, so long as the cards are still in rotation. No supplementary sets or digital-only cards are allowed in the format.
-
Adhere to the banned and restricted list.
Banned cards are banned and restricted cards are restricted. Everyone is here to have fun and not ruin the play experience for others. Please adhere to the ban and restricted list, as we believe this is the most optimal way to play the format.
-
You can only run 1 of each restricted card.
Restricted cards have been around for a long time, but no format other than Vintage has utilized it in the last decade or more. The ARC believes that adding restrictions to certain problematic cards will allow them to still exist in the format but lessen their overall impact.
-
Your deck can have up to three restricted cards at a time.
We also don’t want decks to just become restricted toolbox decks. As such, you are only allowed three restricted cards per deck, including your sideboard.
-
Report your win/loss and deck lists
We do request that you report your win/loss results and deck lists to us. This is the best way for us to collect data and is vital for keeping up-to-date with the health of the format. Feedback on the format in general is also very helpful. While the ARC reserves the right to make changes as we see fit, it does help guide us in keeping the metagame healthy for all players.

How Rotation Works?
Aether is a rotating format designed to give more playability to your cards from Standard. At any given time, there will be 20+ sets in the format.
The current set rotation method is when the newest set enters the format, the oldest set leaves.
The exception to this rule is when a block or block-like sets are about to leave the format, then the rotation waits until all sets in the block can rotate out without dropping the total number of sets below 20.

The following cards have been restricted to one copy per deck, including sideboard.
